Maple Leafs reporter reveals the perfect trade target for GM Brad Treliving
With the trade deadline less than a month away, the Maple Leafs need to add a particular group has never been so clear. The need for a top 4 defenceman is number one on GM Brad Treliving's list. The Leafs have struggled defensively this year being 2nd in the NHL for most goals allowed! Completely unacceptable for a so called "contender".
Names like Chris Tanev, David Savard, Jakob Chychrun and Brett Pesce have all been names linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs ahead of the deadline. The Athletic's Kevin Papetti, suggested a wildcard defenceman who if he is made available should be very highly considered by the Leafs management brass.
Oleksiak potential trade target for the Maple Leafs
If Jamie Oleksiak is made available, the Leafs should be all over him. He is a unicorn stay at home defenceman with term which is definitely exciting for Treliving as he mentioned he would like someone with ideally term instead of a rental.
The 6 foot 7 defenceman has a career high of 25 points, but isn't known for his offensive game. His defensive play has been a crucial part to the Seattle Kraken and their win vs the Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year.
It is still unclear in which direction the Kraken will head to at the deadline, but their playoff hopes keep slipping away by the days, and can very soon become sellers, and the Toronto Native can fetch them a haul.
