Toronto Maple Leafs' Jordie Benn Clears Waivers: What this means for the Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs placed Jordie Benn on waivers yesterday. It is now official that he has cleared waivers.
Jordie Benn Clears Waivers
The 35-year-old blueliner signed a one-year deal in Toronto this season, and has been dressed in 12 games for the big club this season.
What This Means
Benn being assigned to the AHL will give the Maple Leafs a other $750,000 in cap flexibility prior to the deadline.
They now sit just under $2-million in accrued space, which is enough to make a substantial move with retained salary.
This could put them back into the running for a defenseman, such as Scott Mayfield or Carson Soucy, or even back into the conversation for a guy like Mattias Ekholm.
These types of moves may seem minor, but they could be a small pieces of a much bigger deal.
We'll just have to wait and see.
