The Tampa Bay Lightning tied the New York Islanders in their third-round series at 1-1, but the victory will be scrutinised, at least by Isles head coach Barry Trotz, who was furious after a too-many-men call was missed.
Trotz can be seen below giving it to the officials after a quick review of the play on the tablet revealed 7 Lightning skaters on the ice just prior to Ondrej Palat's go-ahead goal to make it 2-1 for Tampa in the 2nd frame. Trotz was HOT over the botched call.
While you could certainly argue that two of the Bolts were non-factors in the goal and were clearly headed for the Tampa bench, it seems really odd that a call was not made on the play due to the fact that there were TWO extra bodies on the ice and not just one.
"The second goal hurt quite a bit," Trotz said following the 4-2 loss. "Obviously you guys know there was too many men on the ice there. They had seven guys."
As we've seen all postseason, the officials seem content to just let the teams play and to not call anything unless it's completely egregious. Still, this is one you wish you could challenge if you're Barry Trotz.
