Controversy Erupts as the Chicago Blackhawks Ditch Their Pride Jerseys
The NHL is truly a ridiculous league. In a sport where all 32 teams are mandated to wear a St. Patrick's day themed jersey, there is no true effort to supporting one of the most actively marginalized communities in the world.
When Ivan Provorov boycotted the Philadelphia Flyers' warmup Pride jerseys, it almost looked like the outrage would grow support for the cause.
Instead, it essentially gave teams the go-ahead to cancel their own pride days, such as the New York Rangers, and Islanders. Now the Chicago Blackhawks have joined that group, and the controversy was inevitable.
Instead of wearing their Hockey is for Everybody Jersey, the team moved up its Black History Month jersey day.
Until a positive culture shift occurs, the LGBTQIA+2 community will continue to be persecuted in a sport everybody should be allowed to love.
