As Habs new GM Kent Hughes gets settled into his new role he's got some trades already in the works. Many believed it is Habs defenceman Jeff Petry that will be first to have his ticket punched out of Montreal.
However Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has given his update on the Montreal Canadiens, and it's definitely going to be a defenceman traded first. But it's believed Elliotte Friedman believes it will be Habs defenceman Ben Chiarot.
Friedman said this on the matter, "I still believe that Chiarot will be the first to be traded, because he will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The St. Louis Blues are very involved in this and they are not the only team in the race."
«If you withhold a portion of Chiarot's salary, you only agree to do it this year knowing that his contract is coming to an end. In Petry's case, you would be retaining salary for a long time his contract ends in 2025."
Ben Chiarot has been the Canadiens best defenceman all season there was also spectaculation that Ben Chiarot and teammate Artturi Lehkonen are linked to a deal with the New York Rangers possibly for Alexis Lafreniere.
