According to ESPN hockey analyst Kevin Weekes, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes is close to extending Jake Allen, who will become his number one goaltender in Price's absence.
Allen, 32, is in the final year of a contract that pays him $2.875 million annually.
The Fredericton, New Brunswick native maintained a 3.30 goals-against-average and .905 save percentage in 35 games last season.
