The American Thanksgiving is a usually pivotal stage of the season, helping to determine a little more about the various NHL teams between now and the end of the season.
That's why, normally, the trade market starts to reactivate in the NHL around December, as we see teams show more and more of their play for the rest of the season.
To that end, the excellent tipster Frank Seravalli has just released his list of 20 players to watch on the trade market.
On this famous list, we find two Montreal Canadiens players: one player in the top 20 and one honorable mention.
The CH player most likely to be traded soon would be Sean Monahan. This is not a surprise in itself, as the 28 year old centre is playing very well this season.
With his contract ending this year and the fact that he's bringing great play both ways, there's no doubt he'll catch the eye of Stanley Cup contenders.
Here's his sheet on Daily Faceoff:
Sean Monahan
Centre, Montreal Canadiens
Age: 28 years old
Stats: 18 games, 3 goals, 7 assists, 10 points
Contract: Unrestricted free agent this summer, $6.375 million
Bonus: What a great story, he recovered from major hip surgery, and that injury cost him his spot in Calgary. The Flames were forced to give a first round pick (to the Canadiens) to get rid of his contract.
Monahan can still be an ideal third centre for a contending team, what a magnificent management by CH general manager Kent Hughes and his cronies.
At first glance, I have serious doubts that Kent Hughes expects to at least get a first round pick, especially for the 2023 draft, in return for #91.
With the fact that Monahan is a natural centre, can play the wing, is also good on the 200-foot ice, and brings a big dose of leadership to a locker room, it's clear that he's the ideal package deal for a team looking to go far.
I'd put a small $2 on the Colorado Avalanche!
The other Tricolore player who would be most plausible to be traded in the near future is Evgenii Dadonov.
Dadonov is in the honorable mentions, but I think that's due to the fact that not many teams are interested in acquiring the Russian forward.
