However the Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens have another tough decision ahead of them with another defenceman. That prospect is none other than their 31st overall pick in the 2021 draft from the London knights Logan Mailloux.
The controversial prospect has been the talk of the town in London Ontario since the Ontario Hockey League lifted Mailloux's suspension. Logan has been a clear standout on a talented London Knights team. Mailloux has 3 goals and 5 assists in his first 6 OHL games.
London Knights head coach Dale Hunter has already gone on record saying Logan is NHL ready, sources had told Canadiens reporters Arpon Basu and Marc-Antoine Godin of the Athletic said, "He's NHL ready and will be in the Canadiens lineup next season."
Now the Canadiens have to decide if Logan Mailloux is in their plans going forward. He was drafted by Marc Bergevin while he was the GM. This team is now Jeff Gorton's and GM Kent Hughes, but it looks like they are looking at the talent Mailloux and willing to give him a second chance.
Habs GM Kent Hughes when asked about Logan Mailloux had this to say, "We plan on signing Logan after this season. Despite what he did, he is a very good hockey player. He deserves a second chance."

The Athletic also have their opinion on Logan Mailloux in Montreal saying this,
«The other considerations, the terrible message it sent to their fans and the hockey world that essentially all is forgiven if you're good at hockey, mattered much less. But the Canadiens are still dealing with the fallout from that decision, and it would probably be less of an immediate issue if Mailloux wasn't performing as well as he has. What that will do, if it continues, is once again put the Canadiens in a situation where they are weighing their responsibilities as a hockey organization versus their responsibilities as members of society. Are their fans ready for the day Mailloux is part of the organization? Are they ready to be proud of him? Are the Canadiens even ready?»
The OHL reinstated Mailloux because they were satisfied with the counselling he has undergone and that he committed to continue to never repeat his mistakes. Maybe the Habs will need to show the fanbase the work that has been done, and then let Mailloux handle the heat in a Canadiens' jersey.
Logan Mailloux is a great hockey player and looks like he's going to be a star. Logan made a terrible mistake but he's human we all have made mistakes no one is perfect. If he's truly learned from it will see, let's hope he did and lets hope he goes on to have a amazing career with the Montreal Canadiens.
