As many teams show interest in acquiring Timo Meier, many seem to be dropping out of the race due to the high asking price.
Leafs Dubas unwilling to trade his first-round pick or Matthew Knies for a pure rental is one of the GMs like many others.
Meier's contract will end this summer, but as an RFA, the team that acquires him will have some control. However, if Meier's agent says he won't sign long-term with the acquiring team, they may be less willing to give up their best assets for him.
Meier's preferred destination is rumored to be New Jersey, according to a source who has accurately broken news in the past, but this may be a false narrative. This report could still impact the bidding for Meier, regardless of its accuracy.
