After it has all but been confirmed that Utah will be getting an NHL team next season, Elliotte Friedman has reported that they are looking to make a splash in free agency this offseason.

The drama around the Arizona Coyotes has been a mark on the NHL, especially with reports about how they failed to pay their hotel bills and were not communicating to players or their families about the future of the franchise. Now, reports have all but confirmed that the team will be playing in Utah next season.

With that, Elliotte Friedman has taken to his 32 Thoughts podcast to discuss how the new ownership in Utah will be looking to make a splash in the offseason this year with major free agency signings and trades.

Friedman on 32TP says he expects the new Utah team to be very aggressive in free agency and trades, expects new owner Ryan Smith to spend money. They got a good cap situation, they are loaded with picks and prospects as well.

With that, some have already started speculating as to who they will go after, and names like Steven Stamkos have come up, especially considering the deteriorating situation between Stamkos and the Bolts in their contract negotiations.

Steven Stamkos in Utah?

It will be fun to see what Utah can do in their potential first season in the NHL. Anything would be better than what the Arizona Coyotes have done over the past year, playing out of a college arena and not paying their bills. Hopefully, new ownership will learn from the mistakes of the past.
