The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the NHL's biggest teams since the league's inception, but unfortunately, the playoffs in the modern day haven't been too kind to them.

A surprising statistic

Despite not winning a Cup since 1967 and a playoff series since 2004 (until last season), the Maple Leafs have been dominant throughout the regular season, and that's continued in recent years.

In fact, the Maple Leafs are tied with the Boston Bruins for the most consecutive playoff appearances among active streaks at 7, but clearly at this point, regular season success isn't their problem.

A cup run incoming?

Over those seven seasons, Toronto have finished in third in the division four times, first once and second twice, and now, after all of this success and building with the core four, the time for talk and for expectations is over, they just need to do it.

With 111 and 115 points in the regular season over the past two years, the Leafs clearly have chemistry, depth and talent all throughout their roster, but for some reason when the lights are on bright, this is a team that routinely shrink and don't rise to the occasion.

2022-23 saw them conquer the Tampa Bay Lightning however, and with some solid new additions and the deepest team they've ever had, the pressure is on in Toronto, and if they can't make it to at least the Eastern Conference Finals in 2023-24, things are going to have to change for the Leafs.

Will this be year they slay the dragons and advance to the Conference Finals?
