Maple leafs officially linked to star winger to play with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner
The Toronto Maple Leafs GM and many Leafs reporters have made it clear that their top priority at the trade deadline is to bolster their defensive line. Players like Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev come to mind when thinking about potential Leafs acquisitions. Lately, as per Blues reporter from the Athletic, Leafs scouting brass has been seen scouting the St.Louis Blues regarding defenceman Colton Parayko. Parakyo, has a 6.5M cap hit for another 5 years. The reporter stated that the Leafs may have interest in one of their forwards aswell.
Leafs interested in Buchnevich
Pavel Buchnevich has definitely made a name for himself in St.Louis after being acquired for a bargain in the summer of 2021 with the New York Rangers. The Rangers received Sammy Blais and a second round pick for the Blues forward. This time around, the cost won't be cheap for the Leafs to acquire him.
On Elliotte Friedman's 32T podcast, Buchnevich was the main talk and he believes that the former 70 point scorer can fetch two first round picks in any deal regarding him.
It is clear that the Leafs would need to pay up, but for a player of Buchnevich's calibre doesn't come around that often.
A potential trade can look like this.
TRADE PROPOSAL
Leafs receive: Pavel Buchnevich, 2026 third round pick
Blues receive: 2025 first round pick, Fraser Minten, Nick Robertson and Nick Abruzzese
The Blues would get the equivalent of two first round picks, (2025 first and Fraser Minten) potential top 6 forward and a C prospect.
More details to come.
