After the insdier Elliotte Friedman, it is now the turn of the excellent Marco D'Amico to confirm some information, to the effect that talks were active and intensified between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames, for a trade involving a "forward capable of scoring goals".
It is clear that after two transactions together since the beginning of Kent Hughes' reign in Montreal, the two general managers have a good connection to negotiate and trade together.
It must be said that within the Habs, there are not many tradeable candidates to fill this need, except for Josh Anderson and the good Mike Hoffman.
Moreover, with Anderson's inconsistent play and the fact that many analysts believe that he is not comfortable in the game concepts that Martin St-Louis is trying to implement in the Habs, it is quite possible that he could become a very interesting bargaining chip to bring a significant return for the future of the franchise.
Clearly, if the Flames would opt for Hoffman instead of the CH number 17, the price in return would be much lower. On the other hand, the fact that the enigmatic forward has major flaws in his game makes me doubt that he could really be the player Calgary is targeting, but you never know.
As my colleague William Nadeau at Habs & NHL mentions, for Josh Anderson, we could hope for a first round pick, plus a prospect like Jakob Pelletier possibly, who was a 2019 first round pick. The 21-year-old Quebecer has scored 11 points in 12 games this season in the AHL. With his fire and work ethic, he would definitely become a fan favorite in Montreal.
This file is to be followed, but it seems to be getting busy on the trade market, following the general managers' meeting.
